Tuesday (Mar. 28) British Airways officially began non-stop, year round flights between New Orleans and London. The new international flight departs four times per week from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) to London Heathrow (LHR). From London Heathrow, British Airways’ passengers can connect to over 130 destinations in Europe and beyond.

“We are honored to be able to connect New Orleans with London Heathrow and the 130 plus destinations that British Airways flies to across Europe and beyond,” says Nicolas Krohne, vice president of sales for British Airways. “With a favorable exchange rate and special fares available, Britain has never been more affordable.”

City leaders are especially excited about what this new flight means as it relates to bringing more international tourists to the city

“This flight will make access to New Orleans easier than ever before for international visitors,” says New Orleans Councilman Jared Brossett, chair of the Transportation and Aviation Committee. “We expect this new flight to bring over 36,000 additional passengers to our region each year.”

Starting on Oct. 30, 2017, the service will increase from four to five times a week, operating on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

British Airways will be operating a Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, one of the newest aircrafts in their fleet. Each of the Dreamliner’s 214 seats is equipped with widescreen TVs, an entertainment system capable of connecting with passengers’ devices, and an in-seat chat system for talking to family or friends on the flight. The aircraft is divided into three cabins with 154 seats in World Traveller (economy), 25 seats in World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and 35 seats in Club World (business). Passengers can enjoy complimentary meals, beverages and a free checked bag.

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport now provides service via 17 airlines to 58 non-stop destinations, including eight international destinations.

“We are very excited for the start of British Airways’ new service from New Orleans to London,” says Cheryl Teamer, New Orleans Aviation Board chairwoman. “This is a long awaited flight that will allow our community to travel to Europe and beyond much more easily. It is a major win for the airport and our passengers.”
