Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will host Family Day from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 22 inside the Track Tent. The afternoon will be a perfect and unforgettable holiday treat for the kids and grandkids and will feature live reindeer and creative activities like cookie-decorating, ornament-making and face-painting. Children 12 and under are free and admission for everyone else is only $5.

With their majestic antlers, the live reindeer – named Dancer and Baby Rudy – are sure to mesmerize kids and adults alike. Also known as the caribou in North America, the reindeer is a species of deer native to Arctic and Subarctic regions.

Whenever reindeer are around, Santa Claus can’t be far behind. The jolly fat man will be available to entertain gift wishes, take photos (printed on the spot) for $5 each. Supplies for all of the family-friendly activities – cookie-decorating, ornament-making, face-painting and coloring – will be provided by Fair Grounds.

Guests can enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, along with hot dogs, soft drinks, red and green Kool-Aid and more. A few of the city’s most popular food trucks and pop-up vendors will also be on hand with their inventive fare. Family Day coincides with Santa Super Saturday presented by Lee Tractor Company & Kubota Tractors, an afternoon of high-quality racing with three stakes on the turf. First post for the 12-race program is 1 p.m.
