We think it is indeed excellent news that Sterling Farms will open its doors in late March, with a grand opening set for Mar. 26.
The first of the supermarkets, owned by actor Wendell Pierce, businessman Troy Henry and veteran grocery store operator James Hatchett, opens on the westbank of Jefferson Parish at the corners of Ames and Lapalco boulevards and will certainly provide access to fresh food for thousands of nearby residents.
But Sterling Farms is set to do so much more than that. Monthly community events are slated to raise money for local organizations. A first-come, first-served shuttle service will be made available to patrons that buy at least $50 worth of groceries and need a ride home. And already, the story has created 60 new jobs in the community.
That is good business!
While we look forward to additional Sterling Farms opening across the metro area, we encourage our readers to support this westbank store and Black entrepreneurship everywhere whenever possible.
