WBOK 1230 am Adds New Programming to Lineup
WBOK 1230AM recently welcomed new on-air personalities to the station’s line up. Starting with “The Good Morning Show,” airing weekdays from 7 a.m.-10 a.m., attorney and community activist, Tracie L. Washington tackles the issues and talk of the day, along with her co-host, former New Orleans city councilman, Oliver Thomas.
New programming also includes “The Bubble,” featuring Big Abe and DJ Chicken, formerly of 102.9FM, which airs every Saturday from 11am-1pm. “The Bubble” addresses issues facing the youth and features commentary from a young, urban perspective.
WBOK’s all new “Health Department” features programming geared toward physical and financial health. Health-conscious programming includes “The Doc Griggs Show” featuring Dr. Eric Griggs, a graduate of The University of Notre Dame, and Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Griggs is a health advocate who encourages the public to “Get checked, get fit and get moving”. This November, in partnership with the Bayou Classic, he will host the 2nd annual Doc Griggs “2 x’s Around the Dome” Family Fitness Fun Walk. “The Doc Griggs” show airs 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday.
Mildred Dillon, CPA, hosts “The Money Doctor”, which addresses financial health and wellbeing, with topics ranging from money management and retirement, to tax issues. Dillon is a practicing CPA in metro New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Hammond, and the author of nine books. “The Money Doctor” airs 1 p.m. each Friday.
Rounding out the new programming is “The Samantha Beaulieu Show” featuring New Orleans stage and screen actress Samantha Beaulieu. “The Samantha Beaulieu Show” covers entertainment and culture in the Crescent City, highlighting the best of New Orleans film, theater, music and food. Beaulieu is an award-winning actress (winner of Gambit’s 2010 Big Easy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for “A Raisin in the Sun”) and can be seen in the New Orleans shot thriller “Now You See Me”, currently in theaters. “The Samantha Beaulieu Show” airs from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. every Friday.
The WBOK News Department was created earlier this year under the helm of new general manager, Paul Beaulieu. The news department is headed up by news director Janella Newsome, who brings to the station 25 years of professional broadcast experience, having previously worked in the news departments at WDSU and ABC 26. Newsome is also an instructor in the Mass Communication Department at Dillard University and oversees WBOK’s broadcast interns.
Veteran sports reporter Ro Brown, is host of the sport show “Sport-A-Facts”, which airs Wednesdays at noon. Brown previously served as sports director and reporter for WDSU television and is the voice of the UNO Privateer Basketball team.
