The Bayou District Foundation’s mission is “to implement an innovative community re-development model – focused on education – which enables children and families to escape the cycle of poverty, build a thriving community, and live productive, healthy and fulfilling lives.” The area comprises the former St. Bernard Housing Development and surrounding communities.

A member of the Business Council, Gary Solomon, sits on the board of the Bayou District Foundation along with OPSB elected representative for the John McDonogh community, Nolan Marshall, Jr.

Former President George H.W. Bush serves as one of Bayou District Foundation’s Honorary Chairmen.
