Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman and OPSO Compliance Director Gary Maynard will update the public on events, accomplishments and challenges of the first quarter of this year at a community meeting on Thursday, Mar. 30.
They will be joined by other OPSO officials who will discuss, in detail, jail operations, staff training and employee recruitment.
The Sheriff’s Office plans to hold community meetings once a quarter. The meeting will include a question-and-answer period and will begin at 6 p.m. at the Progressive Baptist Church, 1214 S. Robertson Street.
Maynard was a former corrections chief in Maryland and has 40 years of experience in this field. Sheriff Gusman announced Maynard appointment at compliance director last August. Maynard’s name was one of two given to Gusman by a federal judge as part of the selection process.
Maynard’s responsibilities include final authority over jail operations and management of its employees and finances for at least nine months; or as long as it takes for a federal judge to find jail conditions compliant.
