The quarterly hearing on the NOPD consent degree takes place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18 in the United States Courthouse Courtroom of Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle (Room C-501, 5th Floor) on 500 Poydras Street.
The hearing will focus on NOPD’s development and implementation of EPIC (Ethical Policing Is Courageous) peer intervention program. Created by police officers, EPIC teaches officers how to safely and effectively intervene in another officer’s actions to prevent mistakes, misconduct, and to keep civilians safe.
The hearing will include testimony from NOPD officers and management, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Consent Decree Monitoring Team, and locals who were involved in the development of the EPIC program.
