The 2017 Essence Festival has partnered with New Orleans’ own Master P with Team HOPE NOLA and 100 volunteers for a ‘Day of Service’ sponsored by Walmart.
Supported by Walmart since its inception in 2015, the Day of Service is an annual event and this year’s theme will emphasize serving the city’s seniors and youth on Thursday June 29 (tomorrow) from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Guste Homes Senior Residence on 1301 Simon Bolivar Ave.
In partnership with Master P and Team HOPE (Helping Our Players Excel) NOLA, Essence will provide a custom New Orleans volunteer experience for local youth and traveling festival-goers, which includes beautifying a historic inner-city senior residence. Team HOPE NOLA, founded by Robert Pack and Master P, provides at-risk students with opportunities for self-sufficiency, community collaboration and entrepreneurship.
Volunteers will paint and gardening for the senior residence. Walmart and Sam’s Club are donating and installing computers and televisions as well as furniture at the Guste Homes media room as part of Walmart’s #MorePowertoYou campaign during Essence Festival.
