Xavier University Pharmacy Dean to help lead American Heart Association Kathleen Kennedy, PharmD to serve on regional board of directors

Kathleen Kennedy, PharmD was elected to the American Heart Association Southeast Board of Directors. Dr. Kennedy will serve on the board during the Association’s 2019-2020 fiscal year. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
Dr. Kennedy is Professor & Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana.
“The American Heart Association’s dedication to improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans is vitally important work,” said Kennedy. “I am honored to serve as a board member and look forward to helping the American Heart Association continue to lead the fight to save lives from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
During the upcoming year, Dr. Kennedy will continue to play an instrumental role in guiding efforts to reduce the incidences of heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
Dr. Kennedy is also the current Greater New Orleans Board Chair and serves on the Health Equity Committee. As such, she successfully helped to engage the Anthem Foundation in launching the first Hands-Only CPR Kiosk in Louisiana. Dr. Kennedy has been instrumental in helping to launch the AHA’s HBCU Scholars initiative in the New Orleans market for the upcoming school year. Additionally, she has participated in advocacy efforts around Smoke-Free Initiatives, Healthy Food in Public Places and Complete Streets.
