The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will begin service reductions beginning Tuesday, March 17th to all bus, streetcar, ferry, and paratransit services to assist in the mitigation of community spread of COVID-19. All busses and streetcars will operate on a reduced Saturday schedule.
The New Orleans Public Library locations will be temporarily closed as well. Although, the buildings are closed e-resources are available to Library cardholders. A variety of free electronic resources for all ages including news, movies, books, audiobooks, and more.
With school and business closures, several Internet companies are offering help for customers amid the crisis. Charter Communications, says it will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with students who do not have an internet subscription. Comcast is offering free Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots for all, including nonsubscribers. AT&T has pledged not to terminate wireless, home phone, residential or small business broadband services amid the coronavirus pandemic. Verizon also has pledged to waive any late fee payments for customers affected by the outbreak.
