Measure Heads to the House Friday

Wednesday evening, the Senate unanimously (96-0) approved a historic stimulus package to combat the crippling effect of the coronavirus on the economy.

The legislation represents the largest emergency aid package in US history and the most significant legislative action taken to address the rapidly intensifying coronavirus crisis, which is overwhelming hospitals and grinding much of the economy to a halt.

The legislation next heads to the House, which is expected to convene at 9 a.m. Friday to consider the relief package. The body plans to conduct a voice vote on the measure to avoid forcing all members of the House to return to Washington for a recorded roll call vote.
