On Monday, March 30, the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) announced the consolidation of the City-run drive-thru COVID-19 testing to one site in Orleans Parish.
Testing will continue daily at the UNO Lakefront Arena parking lot for individuals who arrive in a vehicle, are 18 years of age or older, and who have an on-site fever or a self-reported fever with a cough or shortness of breath. Hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until the daily cap of 500 tests is reached. The drive-thru testing site in the Mahalia Jackson Theater parking lot closed at 2 p.m. Monday and will not reopen.
“In the last few days, testing demand has slowed,” said NOHSEP Director Collin Arnold. “It is far too soon to determine if this is due to the beginning of a flattening curve or if people are simply heeding the stay home order. In either case, we are making operational changes to best utilize our resources in this ongoing public health emergency.”
Drive-thru COVID-19 testing continues at the Alario Center on the Westbank, run by the Jefferson Parish Emergency Management Department.
As a reminder, the Stay Home Mandate remains in effect. Everyone is asked to continue to stay home except for essential needs. For more information, visit ready.nola.gov.
