The last day to buy tickets or place an order is today, Tuesday, Sept. 8


The NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet is virtual this year. The event will bring the community together to celebrate and recognize community leaders who have made significant contributions in the areas of civil rights, social justice, or community service.

It will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, with ticket holders and guests participating through Zoom. Tickets are $100 each. Dooky Chase Restaurant will provide a choice of three meals, as well as a choice of salads and desserts. The meals will be delivered to the homes of ticket holders before the start of the virtual event.

Under the theme Leadership in the New Frontier, featured speakers for the evening include Judge Ellen Hazeur and Judge Honorable Nakisha Ervin Knott. 

The 2020 award recipients include Nancy Parker Boyd (posthumous), Dr. Lewis W Smith DD (posthumous), Priscilla Robinson Edwards, Gail Womack-Murray, and Walter M. Goodwin Sr.

Special guests include Warren Bell and Norman Robinson, and the leadership of four local universities: Dr. Walter Kimbrough of Dillard, Dr. Reynold Verrett of Xavier, Dr. James H. Ammons, Jr. of SUNO, and Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib of Delgado College.
