Today (Tuesday, Dec. 15), District Attorney-Elect Jason Williams will announce his transition leadership team and update the public on the transition process. Williams has a scheduled a press conference at 2:15 p.m. today at Edna Karr School in Algiers.
Running on a platform of wide-ranging reform in the District Attorney’s office and across the criminal justice system, Williams soundly defeated former criminal district court Judge Keva Landrum in the Dec. 5 runoff election to become Orleans Parish’s top prosecutor.
As chairman of the New Orleans Orleans City Council Criminal Justice Committee, Williams lead an effort to examine the allocation of funding across the criminal justice system in Orleans Parish.
During his campaign, Williams promised sweeping reforms, including abandoning the overuse of the state’s habitual offender law to ensure that trials and plea bargains, especially, are fair and not driven by coercion or pressure.
