Mayor LaToya Cantrell is expected to meet with President Joe Biden on Friday, Feb. 12, as part of a small group of mayors and governors invited by President Biden to discuss the importance of state and local funds in the next stimulus and relief package currently being considered by Congress.
Some $350 billion is earmarked for aid to cities and states, and that allocation as been one of the chief sticking points between Republicans and Democrats, though the Democrats have taken steps to approve the plan without bipartisan support.
The funding is part of the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that also includes direct assistance to individuals through $1400 stimulus payments and extended unemployment through the end of August.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the White House at 11:15 a.m. EST Friday.
