New Orleans East Hospital and Counciman Oliver Thomas join forces to host PrEpare Her Event on Oct. 14
New Orleans East Hospital and the Office of Councilman Oliver Thomas of District E are hosting “PrEpare Her,” a Women’s Health Brunch & Learn from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. The event is free to the public and will be hosted at New Orleans East Hospital, 5620 Read Blvd.
PrEpare Her aims to create a safe and empowering space where women can access vital tools, knowledge, and a platform to advocate for their right to a safe and healthy life in New Orleans and is driven by a shared mission to address the growing and urgent threats to women’s health, such as maternal mortality, domestic violence, femicide, and poor nutrition.
“The scourge of gun violence in New Orleans East affects everyone, but it is having a particularly devastating impact on the women in our community,” said Councilman Thomas. “PrEpare Her is a critical step toward addressing the inequities faced by our women, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive despite these challenges.”
The event will include vital health screenings and feature a diverse range of activities, including an expert panel discussion where leading voices will delve into the current state of women’s health in New Orleans, shedding light on the critical issues that impact women’s lives.
Dr. Takeisha Davis, president and CEO of New Orleans East Hospital, emphasized the importance of supporting women in the face of prevalent systematic health inequities.
“As a healthcare provider and New Orleans native, I see and experience firsthand the disparities and obstacles that women in New Orleans East encounter. PrEpare Her is not just an event; it’s a commitment to providing comprehensive support and empowerment to women, ensuring that they have the resources to lead healthy and fulfilling lives,” says Dr. Davis.
