New Orleans Public Library Offers Resources for Job Seekers

Looking for a job? Need help creating a resume? Looking for workplace readiness skills? The New Orleans Public Library offers free classes, workshops, drop-in help, and more to assist job seekers at Library locations across the city.

Drop-In Computer Basics Support:

Get assistance with the basics of using a computer, such as internet browsing and email.

These sessions provide beginners with a relaxed environment to practice using a computer and ask questions along the way. Learners are welcome to bring their own laptops, but desktop computers will be available. Ages 16 and up welcome.

Find The Job Training You Need – With Job Corps Academic Advisors:

Whether you’re searching for a new career, finishing your high school diploma, or exploring your job options, Job Corps can provide you with free training to jump-start your future.

 Learn about the training and support offered by the Job Corps Academic Advisors. Get assistance with applying to the training program that interests you.

JOB1 – Career Resource:

Meet with JOB1 Business and Career Solutions, a New Orleans Public Library partner. This agency offers employment and training services to provide employers with a skilled workforce and to link job seekers to employment.

JOB1helps at any stage in your career, even if you’re just starting out. JOB1 YouthWorks Career Center helps youth between the ages of 16 – 24 find jobs, explore careers, pursue education goals, develop leadership skills, and receive comprehensive guidance and counseling.

Drop-In Technology & Job and Resume Support:

Look for jobs online, fill out applications, polish your resume, and increase your technology skills and understanding, with assistance from Library staff. Get comfortable with technology and become familiar with free Library resources for finding a job.

Learn to Type Without Looking (And Have Fun Too!)

Learn typing skills, including the ability to find keys on the keyboard. Increase your comfort level in using a computer. For all ages 16 years and up and all computer skill levels.

Various typing and mouse clicking programs will be used. Registration is suggested but not required. Sign up at nolalibrary.co/typing.

Job Searching from A to Z: Getting the Job You Want and Need

Susan Salomone, from Workforce Development and Career Solutions at Ochsner, brings a unique combination of personal job searching experience, career success, and years of coaching experience. This workforce series will prepare you for your job search, by showing you how to create a daily and weekly routine, organize information about employers and job postings, identify multiple places to look for jobs, and network your way to opportunities.
